1. Introduction

MangoLab ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Chingu mobile application ("App"), website at getchingu.com ("Site"), and related services (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your personal information when you use the Service.

By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address, display name, and profile information. If you sign in through a third-party provider (such as Apple or Google), we receive basic profile information from that provider.

Conversation Data

We store the text messages you exchange with AI companions to maintain conversation continuity, provide language corrections, extract vocabulary for flashcard review, and improve the learning experience.

Voice & Audio Data

When you use the voice input feature, your audio recordings are sent to OpenAI's Whisper API for speech-to-text transcription. Audio data is processed in real time and is not permanently stored by us after transcription. The resulting text transcript is stored as part of your conversation data.

Learning Data

We collect data related to your learning progress, including vocabulary lists, flashcard review history, spaced repetition schedules, XP (experience points), companion relationship levels, streak data, and language proficiency assessments.

Device & Usage Information

We automatically collect certain information about your device and how you use the Service, including device type, operating system version, app version, language settings, session duration, feature usage patterns, and crash logs.

Payment Information

Subscription payments are processed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store via RevenueCat. We do not directly collect or store your credit card numbers or payment credentials. We receive transaction identifiers and subscription status information to manage your subscription.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide and operate the Service, including AI companion conversations, language corrections, and vocabulary extraction
  • Maintain conversation memory so AI companions can reference past interactions and provide a personalized experience
  • Track your learning progress, manage flashcard schedules, and adapt content to your proficiency level
  • Process and manage your subscription
  • Send push notifications (such as streak reminders and companion messages), which you can disable in your device settings
  • Improve and develop the Service, including analyzing usage patterns and fixing bugs
  • Ensure the security of the Service and prevent abuse
  • Comply with legal obligations

4. AI & Conversation Data

Chingu uses artificial intelligence to power conversations with AI companions. Here is how your data is processed within the AI system:

  • Language Model: Your messages are sent to OpenAI's GPT-4o API to generate AI companion responses, language corrections, and vocabulary extractions. OpenAI processes this data according to their API data usage policy, which states that API inputs and outputs are not used to train their models.
  • Speech-to-Text: Voice recordings are processed by OpenAI's Whisper API for transcription. Audio is not retained after processing.
  • Text-to-Speech: AI companion voice responses are generated by ElevenLabs. The text of companion responses is sent to ElevenLabs for audio synthesis. ElevenLabs processes this data according to their privacy policy.
  • Memory System: The Service maintains a memory of your conversations to provide continuity with AI companions. This includes summaries of past conversations, key facts you have shared, and relationship progression data. This data is stored in our database and used as context for future conversations.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share your data only in the following circumstances:

  • AI Service Providers: Conversation text is shared with OpenAI (for language model processing and speech-to-text), and companion response text is shared with ElevenLabs (for text-to-speech generation), as described in Section 4.
  • Infrastructure Providers: We use Supabase for database hosting and authentication. Your account data and conversation history are stored on Supabase infrastructure.
  • Payment Processors: Subscription data is managed through RevenueCat, which interfaces with the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
  • Push Notifications: We use Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) to deliver push notifications to your device.
  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, regulation, or legal process, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.

6. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, including your conversation history, learning data, and profile information.

We may retain certain information beyond 30 days where required by law, to resolve disputes, or to enforce our agreements. Anonymized or aggregated data that cannot be used to identify you may be retained indefinitely for analytics and service improvement purposes.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction: Request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete personal data.
  • Deletion: Request that we delete your personal data. You can delete your account at any time through the App settings.
  • Data Portability: Request a copy of your data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format.
  • Objection: Object to the processing of your personal data in certain circumstances.

8. Children's Privacy

The Service is intended for users aged 17 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 17. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a user under 17, we will take steps to delete that information and terminate the associated account as soon as possible.

9. International Data Transfers

MangoLab is based in Vietnam. Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own, including the United States (where our AI and infrastructure providers operate). These countries may have data protection laws that differ from those in your jurisdiction.

By using the Service, you consent to the transfer of your information to these countries. We take reasonable steps to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

10. Cookies & Tracking

The Chingu App does not use cookies. Our website (getchingu.com) may use essential cookies for basic site functionality. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking pixels.

Within the App, we collect usage analytics as described in the "Device & Usage Information" section above. This data is used solely for improving the Service and is not shared with advertisers.

11. Push Notifications

With your permission, we send push notifications through Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) to remind you of streaks, deliver companion messages, and notify you of important updates. You can disable push notifications at any time through your device settings.

To deliver push notifications, we store a device token associated with your account. This token is deleted when you disable notifications or delete your account.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you through the App or by other reasonable means. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.

We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically. The "Effective Date" at the top of this page indicates when this policy was last updated.
